UT High School Celebrates Record-Breaking Class at Bass Concert Hall
On Saturday, June 6, The University of Texas High School (UTHS) proudly celebrated its graduates during a memorable commencement ceremony held at the iconic Bass Concert Hall on The University of Texas at Austin campus. The event marked a significant milestone for students, families, and educators alike, honoring the achievements of a dynamic graduating class.
UT High School serves students across Texas through its Texas Diploma Program while also reaching learners around the world through its International Diploma Program. Reflecting that global reach, not all graduates were able to travel to Austin to participate in the ceremony. However, some students journeyed from as far as New Jersey, Brazil and Colombia to attend in person. In total, 280 students walked across the stage, including 22 graduates from UT Charter School’s Scholars Academy, the school’s online program dedicated to supporting student success in a flexible learning environment.
"Because we are a virtual high school, it is possible for our international students to complete all their requirements, including STAAR EOC from inside their own country. So, having international students travel from great distances to participate in their in-person graduation, is very special,” said Dan Diehl, UTHS International Diploma Program Principal.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Executive Director Melissa M. Chavez, who recognized the perseverance and accomplishments of the Class of 2026. Her remarks set the tone for a celebration that highlighted both academic excellence and the unique community that defines UT High School.
Student voices were central to the program. Texas Diploma Program valedictorian Nora Baranuik, International Diploma Program representative Neha Lutherja and Texas Diploma Program students Vivienne Cortez and Christopher “Leo” Barrios spoke about their individual journeys to reach this academic milestone.
“For the first time, UT High School provided students with multiple opportunities throughout the year to connect beyond the classroom. Watching students who had met earlier in the year recognize and embrace one another at graduation was truly special. Even though our students are spread across great distances, these intentional connections are helping bring our community closer together,” said Darnell Horton, UTHS Texas Diploma Program Principal.
This year’s graduating class is the largest in UT High School history—a testament to the school’s continued growth and its commitment to expanding access to high-quality, flexible education. With enrollment continuing to rise, UT High School anticipates an even larger graduating class next year.
Congratulations to all of our graduates. We are incredibly proud to have been part of your journey and look forward to seeing the many ways you will make an impact in your communities and beyond.
