UTHS Student Code of Conduct

The Student Code of Conduct provides information to parents and students regarding standards of conduct, consequences of misconduct, and procedures for administering discipline. This Student Code of Conduct has been adopted by the UTHS Advisory Board to promote a safe, secure, and optimal learning environment for all students.

The Student Code of Conduct (“SCOC”) is the district's response to the requirements of Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code.

The Code of Conduct provides methods and options for managing students in the online classroom and school environment, disciplining students, and preventing and intervening in student discipline problems.

Campus Behavior Coordinator

As required by law, campuses must designate campus behavior coordinators (CBCs). The CBCs are responsible for maintaining student discipline. The district will designate a campus Assistant Principal or Principal as the campus behavior coordinators.

Threat Assessment Team

The goal of our Student Behavioral Threat Assessment & Management is to implement formal processes to recognize, report, and assess reported concerns so that effective management strategies can be implemented to help de-escalate concerning behaviors.

The CBC or other appropriate administrators will work closely with the campus threat assessment and safe and supportive school team to implement the District’s threat assessment procedures, as required by law, and shall take appropriate disciplinary action per the Code of Conduct.

Appeals

Questions from parents regarding disciplinary measures should be addressed to the campus administration, or campus behavior coordinator, as appropriate. Concerns should be expressed as soon as possible to allow early resolution at the lowest possible administrative level.

If an informal resolution cannot be reached a parent can file a formal appeal.

The district shall not delay disciplinary consequences pending the outcome of an appeal and the student may not be returned to the regular classroom pending the appeal.

Reporting Concerning Behavior

Our program’s framework promotes active involvement from our staff, students, parents and the community because safety and security impacts everyone. We encourage active involvement by asking all stakeholders to report any threats or concerns they see and hear to an administrator or counselor.
