The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used by the U.S. Department of Education to determine a family's Expected Family Contribution (EFC) by conducting a need analysis based on financial information. This includes income, assets, and other information that a family is asked to provide on the form.

Nearly every student is eligible for some form of financial aid. The requirements indicate that you must:

  • Be a U.S. national or eligible non-citizen
  • Have a valid SSN
  • Have a high school diploma (or GED)
  • Complete the FAFSA

Pay attention to the deadlines! There are federal and state deadlines, and your college of choice may have its own deadline.
