STAAR

Accelerated learning strategies currently offered at both of our UT High Schools for full-time students to prepare for the State of Texas Assessments for Academic Readiness (STAAR) End of Course (EOC) exams include the following:

  • Benchmark assessments
  • Small group, synchronous evening and Saturday tutoring
  • Targeted lessons embedded within core courses
  • Accelerated Learning Committee planning meetings

The State of Texas requires all students to successfully pass the Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History End of Course exams to meet high school graduation requirements. We appreciate parent support to ensure students complete their online remote benchmark exams, log in for their scheduled tutoring, and make arrangements to participate in on-site STAAR End of Course exams in April and May. The state of Texas requires that students participate in the on-site, in person STAAR End of Course exams every year if they're currently enrolled in one of the five EOC courses or previously failed one of these five exams. Research shows that students perform better when they complete their exams on time, rather than trying to take their exams at a later date after they complete the aligned course.

The UT High School District strategies align with expectations outlined in Texas House Bill 4545.
