UTHS student in mountains

Hi, my name is Thor, and I am 17 years old and a junior at UT High School. I have lived in eight different locations across North America, and I am always traveling. This made it hard to attend regular school, but I made it work. Almost two years ago, my parents separated, and they now live in different countries. In order to spend time with both of them, it became necessary for me to travel even more frequently, and it got to a point where I was missing too much school. So, in the summer of 2017, I joined UT High School because of the flexibility it offered. I can now complete classes no matter where I am in the world.

UT High School has made it easier to pursue some of my passions outside of school. From a young age, I have been interested in entrepreneurship. In 7th grade, I started selling items on eBay and I was very successful. Now, I track down the owners of domain names for websites and acquire the rights to the domain name for my clients. Also, I have been involved in cryptocurrency for a couple years now and may get the opportunity to do an internship with someone involved in that space. Currently, I am working on a new project, which is a website that will sell vitamins. This would not be possible if I was not enrolled in UT High School, because I need to be able to work and contact people during normal business hours, which would be much more of a challenge if I were in a brick and mortar high school.

I have been involved in wrestling and mixed martial arts since middle school, and I have done well in both sports. I love spending time outdoors, and I enjoy a number of outdoor activities including hiking, backpacking, fishing, and kayaking. I love to travel and being exposed to new cultures. I spent last summer in Spain taking classes at the University of Granada. During my time there I was able to improve my Spanish, learn more about the Spanish culture, earn university credits, and meet new people from all over the world. Experiences like this have helped shape me as a person, and they would not have been possible if I did not have the flexibility that taking online classes gives me.

UT High School ended up being the perfect fit for my lifestyle. As a UT High School student, I have the flexibility to complete work from anywhere, and I no longer have to worry about missing too many school days. UT High School has given me the ability to take dual-credit courses through the University of Texas, allowing me to earn college credits, which will serve me long after I graduate. Taking online classes has taught me how important it is to manage my time, and it has taught me how to keep myself motivated. I encourage anyone thinking about making the switch to online classes to check out UT High School; it may just be the perfect fit for you too.
