Assistant Director of District Programs

Melissa Freeman joined the UTHS team as a coordinator in June 2018 and has over 12 years of educational experience. She coordinates online professional development programs for Gifted and Talented, Advanced Placement Summer Institutes, and Blended Learning, and is our point person for school partnerships, marketing, and our conference attendance. She received her B.A. in English and Master of Education in Talent Development from Texas State University.  She taught English in 9th, 11th, and 12th grades for 6 years at Manor New Technology High School, a STEM and Project Based Learning School as well as teaching the SPURS Rhetoric course from the University of Texas to graduating seniors on her campus. She also coached 7th and 8th grade middle school and served as the English Department Head, GT Coordinator, ELL Coordinator, Student Council Sponsor, and was a member of her campus’ RtI Leadership Team. She has built and presented professional development at the campus, district, and national levels and was a presenter at the New Tech Network Annual Conferences for 5 years. She is a Texas certified principal and teacher in Secondary English, ESL, GT, Speech, and Social Studies. She enjoys traveling, reading, movies, concerts, and spending time with her husband, her son Walter, and their dogs. She is excited about the opportunity to work with amazing educators at UTHS, and she is excited about helping teachers across the state improve their practice in the classroom.
